I often do not stop my preaching series for Mothers Day or Father Day or other days like that. I normally just keep on preaching whatever series I find myself in. Some may argue against me in that. Others may like it. I do not know if it is wise or foolish, I just know that is what I do. Maybe because those I learned from didn't do it (Yes, I'm talking to you Pastor Rick Goertzen). But, what I will do, is to post something here today in honor of mothers.
This is a very interesting sermon by John Piper. The first half of the sermon is a biblical argument for the need of more godly mothers who teach their children the Word of God. Towards the end of the first half, he makes this great statement:
"So let's make very clear: the apostle of Jesus Christ in this text bestows on motherhood and grandmotherhood a great honor. You have a calling that can become the long-remembered ground of faith, not just for your children--mark this--but for the untold numbers who will be affected by your children. And that's in addition to all the other thousands of ripple effects of faith in your own life."
In the second half of the sermon, Piper turns to talk about his mom. It is very touching to hear him talking about his mom like that. I hope it is helpful to some mothers (future mothers, fathers, & future fathers) that might watch it.
